Dr. Melanie Bechard is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician in Ottawa. Dr. Bechard completed medical school at the University of Toronto’s Mississauga Academy of Medicine followed by Pediatrics residency at the Hospital for Sick Children. She is a current Master of Public Health degree candidate at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a concentration in Health Systems & Policy.
Throughout her medical training, Dr. Bechard has been passionate about health system leadership and health policy, having served on the boards of the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Federation of Medical Students, Canadian Doctors for Medicare, and Resident Doctors of Canada, including a term as President. Much of her advocacy focused on national licensure to optimize physician mobility in underserved regions and universal pharmacare to improve Canadians’ access to essential medications. She looks forward to advancing intersectional gender equity in health and in medical leadership.
