Practiced orthopaedic surgery in Ottawa for 32 years after obtaining her fellowship in 1984. Her work with the University of Ottawa was mainly in the area of undergraduate medical education and her research interests/ publications included post operative pain management, physician education and work-life policy development. Towards the end of her surgical practice, she became increasingly interested in quality and patient safety issues, held a number of related leadership positions at the Ottawa Hospital and refocused her research in this area. When she left surgical practice, she was invited to join the hospital senior administrative team and has held the position of Senior Medical Officer for The Ottawa Hospital since then.
Kathleen has been a member of FMWC for over 35 years. Her service includes president of the Ottawa Branch and various additional roles during the past 7 years on the National Executive including President Elect, President (started the Pap Smear Campaign), Past President, Chair of Finance Committee and Treasurer.
Kathleen and her husband (also an orthopaedic surgeon) have two children – both “grown and flown.” Outside interests include a summer cottage on the Rideau Lakes where boating, fishing and reading are favourite pastimes.
