Recently questions have arisen potentially linking acetaminophen (Tylenol) to Autism, ADHD and neurodevelopmental delays. However, after a thorough and vigorous review of the literature the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) reaffirms that acetaminophen remains a safe and appropriate first-line therapy for treating pain and fever in pregnancy. This remains consistent with the SOGC 2021 guideline. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states that “acetaminophen is one of the few options available to pregnant patients to treat pain and fever, which can be harmful to pregnant people when left untreated.”
